MILWAUKEE VA MEDICAL CENTER ALS CLINIC

Dr. Paul Barkhaus, Neurologist/ALS Specialist and Medical Director of the Certified ALS Center at Froedtert Hospital and The Medical College of Wisconsin, is also a Neurologist with the Milwaukee VA Medical Center, and has been committed to the development of its multidisciplinary ALS clinic. In recent years, he’s increased the number of specialty staff in the clinic who work closely with him in meeting the needs of veterans with ALS and their families. This is particularly notable, given the disproportionately higher percentage of veterans diagnosed with ALS in comparison with the general population.

Currently, the clinic is held the first Tuesday of each month in the Neurology Clinic at The Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center. Along with Dr. Barkhaus, the ALS Clinic Team includes a Nurse Coordinator, Social Worker, Physical and Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapist, Dietitian and the ALS Association Wisconsin Chapter Care Services Coordinator. Respiratory and GI services are coordinated in conjunction with the clinic visits for the convenience of the patient and family.

For specific information on Veterans Benefits and eligibility, please look at the Veterans Benefits page here.
